India is a country of festivities and I am sure it is a huge challenge when one has to control indulging in some great food. We cannot really avoid eating some great delicacies but its definitely very important to make some sensible choices. First and foremost it is very important to become aware to realize and know that under any condition you will not want to burden your body. Overeating, stuffing or eating so many foods at the same time can create more damage to the system even though it can be very appealing to our eyes and our taste buds. Firstly, its good to practice mindful eating meaning eating slow without any distractions, chewing every morsel and literally relishing the food by being present. Our body will only associate to the contentment that we achieve in our mind and when you are eating mindfully you are much more content. Secondly even if there are many choices you will make up your mind to make the wisest choice possible. For e.g. opt for steamed or grilled foods instead of fried foods. When it comes to sweets you can always opt for milk, ghee or jiggery based sweets instead of refined flour based ones or the ones which are fried in oil or vanaspati. Ask yourselves if the food is adding any value in terms of nourishment. Anything that is made of refined flour, sugar, butter etc are only going to create more damage. Finally always learn to practice portion control. Never dump too much food into your body and don’t make it feel like a garbage bin, even if you end up in doing so ensure that you are burning it on the same day by doing some form of exercise. In fact when we practice mindful eating it becomes much more easier to practice portion control. Moreover what most people miss is to get back on track after the occasion. So occasional feasting is okay but get back on track immediately.
